Illini Studio was founded in 1947 by Edward Dessen and was located on campus serving the photographic needs of University of Illinois students. Shortly thereafter the studio branched out into wedding and portrait photography. The studio soon outgrew its location on campus and moved to downtown Urbana. Edward Dessen continued to grow his studio taking on school photography in addition to his already expanding portrait business.
In 1980 his son Jon Dessen joined the business on a full time basis, the business also made a major change when it moved to the corner of Prospect and Springfield in Champaign. Jon started out photographing high school seniors, university students and weddings. Jon expanded the college branch of the business greatly over the next 10 years and continued to improve and learn the art of portrait photography. In 1991 Edward retired from the business and Jon took over the full time running of the business. He photographs all aspects of the business from personal portraits to school portraits to commercial photography.
Illini Studio has always been committed to maintaining a professional location where customers can come in and conduct business during regular business hours instead of having to make special arrangements. The studio has a full time office staff that is available Monday-Friday from 9-5 to take care of their customers.
